Sri Lankan Cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka To Face Trial In Australia Over Rape Case 2023:

The incident of alleged rape that took place in front of Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka during last year’s T20 World Cup in Australia is lying behind him like a shadow. There will be a court trial in Australia on the charges of rape of this player.

This Sri Lankan top-order batsman has played more than 100 matches for his country in all three formats of cricket but now he will have to face a court trial on rape charges.

This case pertains to the T20 World Cup 2022 held in Australia when the Sri Lankan team was present Down Under to participate in the tournament. The player is then allegedly accused of having sex with a 29-year-old woman in Sydney without her consent.

This female cricketer was found on the Tinder platform. After this incident, the cricketer was also arrested and spent 11 nights in custody, after which he got bail. Soon after this arrest, the Sri Lanka Cricket Board immediately suspended this cricketer in November last year.

Three of the four sexual assault charges against Danushka Gunathilaka were dropped last month. He pleaded not guilty to the remaining charge of having sex without consent in a Sydney local court on Thursday.

The top-order batsman, who has played over 100 matches across all formats for his team, had also appealed for a change in his bail conditions so that he reports to the police only three days a week instead of every day.
