Virat Kohli scored his 49th ODI century while playing against South Africa in Kolkata. Some people had also raised questions regarding his slow innings. Kohli batted by staying at the crease till the end and scored a brilliant century.

Gautam Gambhir has reacted regarding Kohli’s batting. Gambhir said that because of the century, Kohli started playing slowly in the end. If there were no runs on the board and there was a flat wicket, such an innings of his could have proved dangerous for Team India.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Gautam Gambhir said that Virat Kohli probably slowed down in the last 5-6 overs because of the century. I understand there were already runs on the board. Had the Indian team been batting on a good wicket, this inning could have been damaging.

Gambhir said that the way Kohli took the risk and removed the pressure from him, he should be praised. Both batted well. The time batting on the new ball was good. Playing cautiously, he allowed Keshav Maharaj’s overs to go and gave him only one wicket. Jadeja took five wickets, it was fantastic.

It is noteworthy that Kohli had completed his century in 119 balls. He equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries. Kohli will set a world record as soon as he scores one more century. No player has ever scored fifty centuries in ODIs.
