Can Washington Sundar have a wildcard entry in World Cup 2023? Former veteran made a big claim – Ireland vs India, 3rd T20I: The third and final match of the three-match T20 series will be played between India and Ireland today.

This match between the two teams will be played at The Village in Dublin. Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra believes that Washington Sundar could get a wildcard entry in India’s World Cup squad if he performs well in the final T20 match against Ireland on August 23.

In fact, Sundar went wicketless in the first two T20Is and faced only one ball. The spin-bowling all-rounder has not been selected for India’s Asia Cup squad.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra discussed how important the third T20 match is for Sundar.

Can Washington Sundar have a wildcard entry in World Cup 2023?

Chopra said, ‘Washington Sundar was largely ignored. He has not been selected for the Asia Cup. He was the talk of the town, but there is no off-spinner in the team. So this can be a change, there can be a wildcard entry.

The former India opener feels Sundar can be an attractive option if he can perform well with both bat and ball. He said that ‘If he takes wickets with his off-spin and scores runs whenever he gets a chance to bat, although he may not get a chance to bat here, if all this happens, Washington Sundar is an attractive option.’

Chopra also mentioned that the Indian team will be looking for off-spinners whenever they face opposition with a lot of left-handed batsmen.

He pointed out that the Men in Blue rarely use left-arm spinners against left-handed batsmen, irrespective of who is the captain.

Aakash Chopra further said, ‘Am I expecting a change in the playing XI because we have won (the series)? Why should you change anything?

I don’t think they should change. Play with the same team because after this T20 there will be the next T20 after the World Cup we will play against Australia after two and a half months.
